Wait is a surface built slowly, layer upon layer, until its relief began to read like terrain seen from above. Ridges gather and break across the canvas like mountain chains, dry riverbeds or fault lines. Borders appear, yet none are drawn. Every line is the trace of an accumulation, a limit that formed over time rather than one that was imposed.
The work takes its name from the moment before crossing. A threshold is not only a line to pass over. It is also a duration, a space in which one’s position is already shifting before a single step is taken. Wait holds that suspended moment.
Waiting is also a form of measure. To pause at the edge rather than cross at once is to recognise the limit as something that protects as well as divides: the condition for approaching what lies beyond without taking possession of it. In a time that equates crossing with speed and conquest, Wait proposes restraint as its own kind of passage, an attention that allows the other side to remain other.
